Chocolate Banana Protein Shake
I have recently found through searching the web how much protein one should be taking.. by one, I mean me! I realized I was not taking in enough protein, especially for weight training and losing fat. So I hopped on the web in hopes of figuring out how I could up my protein intake and I found a few things.
The first thing I found was how much protein an adult woman should be consuming, and when I was looking around I kept seeing .8-1g per kg and I thought, "that can't be right". So I kept looking and came across an awesome chart that helped me out! The protein you consume should be based on your activity level, for example: if you are not active whatsoever, you should be eating about .4g per kg you weigh. So I found out I should be having about 60g of protein per day (you can do the math if you'd like haha). After figuring that out I figured I should be getting about 12% protein, 18% fat and 70% carbs (fruits and veggies, not refined). This has been working for me lately with my new active lifestyle so I can't wait to see the progress I make months from now!
After looking into that I knew I wasn't eating enough protein (not just because I am vegan, I've never been one to get enough protein) so I looked into vegan protein powders and found Vega Sport Performance and fell in love! My fiance and I now have 2 containers always (chocolate and vanilla), I will show you how to make the chocolate one today and I will have another blog coming soon with the vanilla one! One last thing before we get into the recipe, I want to share a little on why I chose the items I use in my smoothie.
I use vega sport protein because it helps build and repair muscles and to recover post-workout. Each serving has 30 grams of protein from a complete multisource plant-based protein blend, 6 grams of BCAAs, tart cherry, turmeric, and 1 billion CFU probiotics (bacillus coagulans) which helps aid gut flora! I use maca powder because it is rich in vitamins B, C, and E. It provides plenty of calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorous and amino acids, it boosts libido, and it has been used to relieve menstrual issues and the side effects of going through menopause. Some women have used it to alleviate cramps, body pain, hot flashes, anxiety, mood swings, and depression. It also increases energy, and helps with overall health and skin.
Let's start with the ingredients, you will need: 1 frozen banana, 1 cup of any non-dairy milk (I like coconut unsweetened, almond vanilla unsweetened, and cashew almond vanilla blend unsweetened). You will also need 1 scoop of performance protein in chocolate and 1 tsp of maca powder. Throw it all into a blender and blend until smooth!
Just pour into a glass and enjoy! Protein powders are hard to get used to but after a couple you will be HOOKED, I promise! Message me if you have any questions or any ideas for another blog post, I love to hear other opinions!
